| A
popular author, columnist, speaker and consultant on
'all things public accounting', Steve has a 25 year
history with the public accounting profession. His career
started in the UK in 1980 when he joined a small 2 partner
firm as a trainee, qualifying in 1983. With his designation
in hand, he then joined a national firm of CAs.
When his previous
'report-to' left that national firm to establish his
own practice, Steve was approached a year later to join
him and open a second office. He did, and Steve quickly
became a partner in that firm.
After the sale
of that practice in 1989, Steve enjoyed a number of
years as a sole practitioner before crossing over to
consulting to CA firms in 1995.
He met Fiona (a
Canadian, and now Steve's wife and business partner)
in 1997 and came to live in Canada in 1998.
He quickly learned
the recruiting business in the GTA, first as Director
of Business Development with a long-established boutique
firm who specialize in recruiting CAs for industry,
at Queen and Bay in downtown Toronto, and then as Vice
President of a national executive search firm, as head
of the accounting & finance practice.
Steve walked away
from the 'rat race' to establish his own 'boutique'
practice, serving only public accounting firms, in May
2003, and is already acknowledged by many as THE leading
expert in public accounting growth, recruiting, mergers
and acquisitions.
Steve
is a member of the faculty of the Institute of Chartered
Accountants of Ontario, a member of Mensa (the high
IQ society) and the Institute of Direct Marketing. He
is also an award-winning marketer for accounting firms,
a sought-after public speaker and the author of several
best-selling eBooks for public accounting firms.
Steve's
first book 'The Practitioners Succession Planning Toolkit'
was published by the Canadian Institute of Chartered
Accountants in July 2005 and he now has five more in
manuscript stage for the CICA to be published during
the next few years.
He
is also the creator of the client service program: 'Towards
Awesome Client Service' - in use in accounting firms
around the world - and also heads our merger & acquisition
service for public accounting firms.
Steve
is also a resident columnist for Canada's Accounting
Newspaper, 'The Bottom Line'.
His
consulting work with CAs takes him literally around
the world (example: in September 2004 he spoke at a
number of seminars for the Institute of Chartered Accountants
of Bangladesh, and has spoken to several groups of CPAs
in the USA and numerous CA firms across Canada).
His
'down-to-earth', approachable manner is often stated
as a breath of fresh air by many who entrust their recruiting
and other projects to him and his staff.
